The problem with PREVENTION is that you are putting your efforts towards something that is yet to be seen, or felt.
Everyday we walk by people and have no idea what the thoughts are in their head or the struggles they are going through. It’s extremely hard to put money and efforts towards something that really can’t be measured. Have you ever stopped to think about that? You can’t measure the results of something that doesn’t exist because it was prevented. The only way to measure prevention is for someone to self report honestly.
There is only one thing to do when you are faced with making progress towards saving lives. You must TRUST… you have to trust, that the preventative message will reach someone, even just one, far enough in their mind and soul. Otherwise, it’s in one ear and out the other.
When considering prevention efforts, ask yourself, “what moves me?” Is it data and research? Is it fear? Is it punishment? Or, is it a raw, courageous souls that are willing to peel off all the layers with the hope and faith of reaching just one soul. Is one soul worth it? If it was your child or loved one, would it be worth it to you?
So, when is the right time to bring your child to an event that talks about depression, suicide, positive choices and Hope. When is the right time to talk to First Responders about anxiety, depression, substance abuse and PTSD? The time is NOW. That is how you prevent someone who is struggling silently from throwing in the towel. You act now.
It is my life’s mission and passion to infuse hope into those that are struggling and to teach others what it took for me to never throw in the towel and to find the strength to keep moving. There is life on the other side of suicide and PTSD.
All My Best,
